A Federated Directory without a federation is like living on a deserted island. Pretty lonely.
A federation between two companies can be seen as befriending someone on Facebook. It creates a link between the two companies.
When you federate with another company, you won't share any of your companies contact data just yet. A federation consists out of two steps:
- Federate with a company
- Create a link between your two companies
- Open contacts
- Configure which of your contact data you want to make available to the other company
Federate with a company
You create a federation with another company, by sharing a 'federation ticket' with them. But the process is:
- Company A creates a federation ticket and shares it with company B
- Company B enters the federation ticket within his application
It doesn't matter which company creates a federation ticket and which company submits it within their portal. The result is the same.
Create a federation ticket
Go to "Federations", click on the orange '+' button at the bottom right and select "Create federation ticket".
A new dialog appears with a new federation ticket. Share this ticket with the other company.
This ticket stays valid for one week and can be used by multiple companies within this week.
Enter a federation ticket
Go to "Federations", click on the orange '+' button at the bottom right and select "Enter federation ticket". A new dialog appears in which you should copy the received federation ticket.
Once the ticket has been accepted, your contact data is not available to the other company yet, or the other way around. Opening up your company directory happens in the next step.
After you have created a federation with another company, you can configure which contact data you want to make available to this company.
Every company stays in control of his own data. The settings described below will only make (a selection of) the data in your company directory available to the other company. It does not automatically mean you gain access to the same data in the directory of the other company.
The other company should also go through the steps below, if they want to make any data of their company directory available to your company.
All federations within your company are available under the "Federations" menu option. Select a federation to configure it.
Here you will see all the directories that are created within your company. Select a directory to enable sharing of the contact data in this directory with the other company.
You can configure per directory if you want to share it (enable) and specify which user attributes within that directory will be made available to the other company.
This way you can, for example, protect the telephone numbers of your employees within one specific directory and only share their email addresses.
